2024 PPOC Lightmatters Conference

I was greatly honoured when I was asked to speak at the 2024 PPOC Lightmatters Conference in Calgary, Alberta, this year. It has always been a personal aspiration of mine to participate in such an esteemed event, and being selected to share my insights was definitively a dream come true for me.

I was asked to discuss in detail how I approach the process of creating my work from the very beginning to the final touches. I often reflect on my WOW moments, the instances of inspiration that ignite my creativity, and how these lead me to create a comprehensive Vision Board. It is important to recognize that our ideas are constantly floating around in the universe, eagerly waiting for us to seize them and put them into action before someone else claims that same idea. I encourage you to challenge yourself and embrace your creativity fully.

My mind is full of vivid pictures and creative ideas that constantly swirl around. It was a significant challenge to find an effective way to translate the photos and visions that existed in my head into tangible images for everyone to see and enjoy. I pushed myself even further by confronting and tackling my Primal Fears head-on. I want to create a total of 10 surreal Photoshop images. This will be a creative challenge that will not only strengthen my technical skills in Photoshop but will also engage and enhance my creative thinking process.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment to give my YouTube channel a “LIKE” and leave a thoughtful comment. Your support means a lot to me and helps my content reach a wider audience. Thank you!

Please watch my YouTube video and let me know what you think. My next task will be to record myself editing one of my images.

Save Leia Photoshoot

Athena approached me about doing a Slave Leia photoshoot to create some images for her husband, who is a big Star Wars fan.

I created the backgrounds and posters from original elements downloaded from free and paid stock sites. l lengthened the dress and the braid in most images

Fantasy Illustration Accreditation 2023

I'm extremely excited to share this wonderful news. I submitted 10 images and all 10 were accepted. I'm now officially accredited in Fantasy Illustration.

I love creating art. My gramma and mom were my inspirations growing up. Both very artistic and talented ladies that I looked up to. I was always considered the “Left Handed Misfit”. Everyone struggled to help an ADHD left handed red head. Art was the one place I felt I fit in.

I married a lefty and had 2 left handed boys.

Thank you to the Professional Photographers of Canada, I'm proud to be a part of this great organization.

Thank you to everyone that helped make this happen.

Mom would be so proud of me.

Dad

Here's a short video of my Dad. I've been thinking of him lately. He passed away July 2021.

He was born in Sackville New Brunswick 1934 with 5 other siblings.

He had so many wild stories of his life that a person could have written a book on him. From how he met my Mom to being a Catskinner building the Coquihalla Highway in British Columbia, Canada.

He was a Union Dispatcher, a business agent, an organizer and a rabble rouser. He walked many a picket line in support of his Union brothers and sisters.

He had 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren

Dad had a crazy sense of humor. I sure miss calling him up and hearing him answer the phone all the time with "Happy Birthday" or "Merry Christmas" just because he could, at anytime of the year. I would come back with" Happy Easter" or any other holiday saying.

He would wave at everyone that we drove by saying "Hi" or picking up coins off the ground.

I put this small video together of some of the photos I have of him. So many more that I didn't add to this one.

I’m hoping to go through some of the home movies soon.

how IT begins

This was a fun project I did on October 28th. My husband dressed up in a pair of yellow rain overalls with a white t shirt and a where’s Waldo hat. A messy clown face with a red nose. I got him to hold a red balloon. His hair was pulled out towards the sides of his face. He wore big work boots. He had the look of a creepy clown. On the t shirt he painted his hand red and placed his hand on his chest for a bloody red hand print. I have other images that I will post later. He was wearing a pair of my dad’s jeans and dad’s yellow ruler suspenders.

I love the show IT. I put a twist on this edit after seeing a prequal trailer of another IT show.

I wanted to use the house that was in the movie. It had to be creepy. I picked a sea pond in a marshy field, dead tree area and a foggy sky stock photos. I placed my husband ( man with red balloon) on the porch. Edited him to fit the shadows in the porch.

I took all the stock photos and I went into Photoshop and grabbed different stages of my work. Put them all in a Power Point presentation. I had to find the right music for the presentation, creepy sound. I put it on my YouTube where you can watch it.

I am using Photoshop CC, and I built a slideshow in Power Point

Ethno Fashion Gala 2018

In 2018 I had the privilege of being a designer in the Ethno Fashion Gala in Edmonton Alberta. I created 20 plus headpieces and a few outfits. I was extremely busy for months. I kept saying, “oh just one more”, all the time. I now have a very large collection. Most of these headpieces were bigger than the normal sizes. I kept making them bigger.

I had 3 amazingly talented makeup artists. I divided up the models to each makeup artist. I’m so impressed with all the wonderful talented models that showed off my work so perfectly.

It was a very exhausting and exhilarating experience that I would definitely do again if asked. Once the models were all in line to walk the stage, I arranged them to the categories and music themes I had.

It was awesome that my Dad made it to the show, unfortunately my mom passed a few years earlier and couldn’t make it. She was the one with all the talent growing up, she would sew and do crafts and taught me many things.

Most of the Head Pieces are available to rent.

Jose Jalapeno and the boys

Back in 2018 I got together with Amanda Preston and her trained trick horse Jose Jalapeno to create a calendar. I put the word out that we were looking for men that wanted to be in a calendar. We spent a few months photographing and were able to come up with 2 photos of each guy for the calendar.

Here are some of the images that were used in the calendar. This was a fun project to work on.

One of the images was submitted to the Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA) which it won an award. The image is the one of Kellen and Jose sitting together.
